We’ve always had a love for Seniors. We were orphaned when I was 3, and my older sister, brother and I moved to our maternal grandparents’ farm in Illinois. Growing up in a close-knit farming community, our Grandparents acted as our parents, and our “Aunts and Uncles” were actually great Aunts and Uncles.
Many years later, when my wife Martha and I started looking for an Assisted Living community for her Mom, I realized how important these communities are, both for Seniors and for their families. Ultimately, I quit my job in Telecommunications and became the Community Relations Director for an Independent Living/Assisted Living/Memory Care community.
Over time, my employers provided on-going classroom training in all aspects of Senior Living, amounting to hundreds of classroom hours. Eventually, I took more classes, tested and received my Long-Term Care Administrator’s license – and I take more classes every year to maintain it.
While I loved the Administrator’s role, my focus was shifted from residents and families to operations (i.e. paperwork and reports). When my friend Shelley McKain (previous owner of Choice Connections of Tulsa) made a career shift, Martha and I purchased Choice Connections of Tulsa.
